We are attempting the summit again!
Jane Lee -

12 May

Hi everyone,

Nope, not on the summit yet. Everything looked well and good and the weather looked like it was going to cooperate. We got up to Camp 2 in two really fast days of climbing and then we heard the latest weather report that our summit bid for the 11th would be sucky. High winds and snow. And the next couple of days after was also going to be crappy.

So we all headed back down the mountain AGAIN. That's the problem with the weather. It changes so quickly.

Now, the entire base camp is literally sitting around, getting really jittery and just watching the weather and reading weather reports. I guess this is the crux of the whole mountaineering game: waiting out the weather.

For a climb like Everest, it's crucial to have good weather, since 150km/h winds is likely to blow one onto the Tibet side of the mountain on the summit ridge and with minus 50 degree temperatures, body parts can freeze off, so it's not like one can just heck the weather and go.

It's also snowing like crazy right now, so no one's going to be moving up for the next couple of days till it clears and then two or three days for the acccumulated snow to consolidate/avalanche off before it's ok to go.

On the up side, going up and down the mountain has it's training benefits. We're getting faster. The first time I went up to Camp 1 from base camp, I took 7.5 hours and thought that I was going to just keel over and not get up. The second time, I took 6 hours and was really happy. This last time, I took 4.5 hours and arrived in really good shape, which really surprised me.

So on the bright side, climbing up and down the mountain can be taken as "training", so it's still alright.

Hope everyone's great back home!

15 May

I'm headed up the mountain again for the summit in the morning (15th may). I'm going to be up at 2am, cuz once again, we're leaving at 330am through the Khumbu icefall.

The weather report for now is looking really good, and all the teams here are counting on this weather window! It's so exciting! I think this is really it! I'm feeling really fit and healthy right now and I've been eating non-stop the past couple of days to store up for the climb.

I have a real real real great feeling about this time, so wish me luck! I can't wait to get back with good news!

I was reading Today paper and what Ian Wong said was true... "Rather than celebrate their achievements just because they are womem, we should celebrate their passion and unity.

I believe the passion and unity are the 2 combined powerful elements to get them there.

Hi Jane, I am your mom's colleague and I know for sure she is one very proud mom. I'm also very sure you know that she love you so much and i can tell you every time she spoke of you, her eyes light up. Whenever we meet, she will tell me how hard it is for her to see you sleep on solid rock, freezing cold temperature while she is at home. I can tell you that the pressure was on her too as she is always worried about her beautiful daughter doing what she had to do. Her tear as much as she tried to hide it made it even more touching for all of us here who is also rooting for you Jane. I always tell her that you will make it to the top and will come home safely. You have one terrific mom. I know now where that strength and determination you got from. As much as she is worried about you being there, I am also very sure she is very glad you finally reach the summit safely. On behalf of all your mom's colleague, WE CONGRATULATE YOU ON YOUR ACHIEVEMENT. WE ARE AS PROUD AS YOUR MOM IF NOT PROUDER. WELL DONE YOUNG LADY. I ONLY HOPE MY DAUGHTER CAN BE AS TOUGH AS YOU. Please come home soon.

Jane: Congratulations to you and your team! Well done on reaching the summit of Mt Everest safely:) Like Sheylara said, now nothing in your life will ever faze you. What are life's obstacles when you can proudly claim yourself to be one of the select few who had successfully scaled the world's highest peak? Ain't no mountain high enough, hehe:)

Best of luck, Jane!! It's quite amazing how much time you managed to shave off within such a short time. After Mt Everest, all other mountains will probably be walks in the park for you! Hehe.
