"Doing star jumps on snow mountains"

Another rest day. Played lots of Bridge (it's a type of card game for 4 players, reputed to require lots of brain power). Lihui and I, together with an English climber (Paul)and his very cute and very big American mountain guide (Mike), make up the "Bridge Club". On a frivolous note, Mike has a voice that makes even phrases like "Pass the toilet paper" sound sexy.

So I actually taught Mike how to play the day before and despite losing the plot on a few occassions and not having half a clue what was going on, ending up winning 90% of the time. That's beginner's luck if I've ever seen it, to Lihui's and my consternation, since we're like the Bridge experts (really!) and we've been playing other climbers under the table.

My team's coach and Base Camp manager, Kim Boon, decided that we'd been sitting around for too long (actually, that's not really true since five days of complete rest is about normal after one rotation. He's just being a slave driver.) and decreed that we climb up to Camp 1 of Pumori, a mountain which is just behind Base Camp. It's over 7000m and very well known for its avalanches. Fortunately, Camp 1 (about 5400m) is still on rocks, so it's safe.

That's us! I'm second from the left, since there's a high chance no one can recognize me. We all look alike.

We're obviously a group of well-acclimatized people, since we had the frame of mind to take these inane shots. From the left, that's me, Esther and Lihui, in mid-air doing a star jump.

My balancing skills are great. The mountain behind me is Nuptse, and it's just to the right of the Khumbu icefall.
